Description

Caldwell County, located in the north western portion of the state, was created on 29 December 1836 and was named by Alexander Doniphan to honor John Caldwell who was a participant in the George Rogers Clark's Native Campaign of 1786 and second Governor of Kentucky. In this volume, you will find a brief history of the county, and the Patrons of the Atlas of 1876. This latter entry is one of the best sources for name of persons living there at the time of 1876. It is a township by township catalog of everyone living in each township and when they came to Missouri from where.
