Butler County, located in the southeastern portion of Missouri on the Arkansas border, was created in 1849 and named for William Orlando Butler, the Congressman from Kentucky who had run as the Democratic candidate for Vice President of the United States with Lewis Cass in 1848. This volume contains a brief history from Walter Williams' "The State of Missouri" on Butler County, Marriage Book A, 1849-1865, 1850 Census Index for District No. 10, and the Marriage Book B, 1866-1880.
